Linear algebra I, Math 80134
- You can find here
the different definitions of ranks and the proof that they all lead to the
same number.
- Here
is an example of Gauss elimination.
- As I promised, I post my handwritten solutions of the midterm. I
checked problems 1 and 2 in your midterms, so after the solutions of 1 and
2 I also describe the typical mistakes I saw. Please take this into
account. In addition, after solutions of some other problems I make
remarks which may be interesting to you (they are not a part of the
solution!). They may concern other possible approaches, etc. Here are
solutions: 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
- Since the last lecture was cancelled due to the snow, I prepared a
note
with the material I planned to cover. I recommend to
look at it, especially for the sake of further studies. It contains
the proofs of row/column decompositions, of the inversion formula, and of
Cramer's rule. I will not ask these proofs in the exam, but I recommend to
check that you are familiar with the formulations.
